GLOBAL PAYMENTS CARD BREACH
Last spring, there was a security breach with another Card Payments Processing Center, Global Payments. As this time, it is not fully known the extent of the breach or the total number of cards or issuer’s affected.
Please be aware of any unusual emails, text messages or phone calls requesting ANY information regarding your card. Remember River City FCU and our processor already has your card number. What we do not have and WILL NOT ask for is the 3-digit code on the back of your card or your enrollment passwords to other sites or your PIN. Please DO NOT give that information to anyone that may ask for it.
River City FCU is dedicated to protecting your personal information and we are monitoring this situation. If we become aware of any member cards that have been affected by this breach, we will notify you as quickly as possible. In the meantime, if you become aware of unauthorized transactions on your account, please notify us as soon as possible.
If you have already received calls or text messages or emails asking for this information, and you provided it to the requestor, please notify us immediately. If this is the case, the following steps will be followed by the credit union:
- We will block and reissue your card.
- We will flag your account and monitor it.
We advise you to:
- Report the incident to the credit bureaus:
- TransUnion 800-680-7289
- Equifax 800-525-6285
- Experian 888-397-3742
- Order a credit report
- Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission
- File a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center www.ic3.gov
- Monitor your accounts closely and report any discrepancies
Again, the best defense against account compromise is to protect the information you have. The information listed above was not part of the security breach and the only way they can obtain the information is for you to give it to the requestor. Also be aware of your non-RCFCU cards. This security breach could affect those plastic cards, also.
