Loan Officer

Role:
To provide timely and well documented decisions on member loan applications. Analyzes loan requests and makes underwriting decisions within lending policy. Insures that loan account records and loan documentation is complete, accurate, and that the credit union's claim to security pledged as collateral is perfected.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Analyzes direct member and indirect loan application requests. Makes decisions to approve, deny or forward loan requests to a higher authority (where necessary) for final decision, while applying sound underwriting guidelines and adhering to loan policy and regulatory requirements.
Establishes the terms and conditions of an approved loan and reviews with the operations team closing on the loan. Communicates key information to branch operations staff to support prompt and accurate loan closings.
Pulls and reviews lending reports, for quality control and internal controls, on both in-house and external loan programs.
Ensures loan documentation is complete and accurate and that the credit union's claim to security pledges as collateral is protected.
Makes recommendations for lending process improvements. Cross sell loan products and services.
Performs other duties as assigned
Performance Measurements:
Provide informed, prompt and accurate service and support to all members and staff by accurately processing, decisioning, and relaying loan decisions to members within thirty minutes and responding to messages and correspondence within the same or next day basis.
Ensure all documention is completed and secured with a 95% accuracy rate.
Maintain a charge-off rate of no more that .4% of loans approved.
Ensure that all approved loans comply with established policies and regulations.
Keep management informed regarding key operational issues affecting the department.
Provide a professional, courteous and friendly atmosphere within the team environment and with membership.
Knowledge & Skills:
Experience
Three to five years of similar or related experience.Education
A high school education or GED.Interpersonal Skills
Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.Other Skills
Must have good communication skills. 10-key calculator, typewriter, and keyboard skills.Physical Requirements
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
